Minituber Production
Purpose
- The purpose of APP is to provide disease free mini
tubers of excellent quality of all types of varieties
ordered by customers
- APP also produces mini tubers of new varieties
that FPD desires to test on a trial basis for future
commercialization
Business Activities
- APP receives sterile in vitro plantlets which were
produced on order in an outsourced accredited laboratory
- These plantlets are planted in APP’s greenhouses
on the mountains above Piketberg, away from any
commercialized vegetable activities
- APP Produces minitubers or Generation 0 seed
varieties
- There are two production cycles per year in which minitubers are produced on order. Planting in September
produces minitubers plantable from April to August of the
following year. Planting in February produces minitubers
plantable from October of the same year to February of the
next year.
- Minitubers are certified after harvest and before
delivery to customers
Business Opportunities
- APP has world class greenhouses and facilities
for the propagation of minitubers for customers
- APP accommodates both PBR as well as open or free
varieties like BP1, Buffelspoort, van der Plank, Hertha etc.
- APP is equipped to do multiplication of imported minitubers under quarantine.
- During two time cycles per year minitubers are
produced on order, namely during March and September
- Orders must be placed six months in advance, namely
October for February planting and April for September
planting.
