Early Generation Seed (G0 - G2)

Purpose

G Zero 2 exists to provide excellence in continuity of quantity and quality in the supply of Generation 2 (G2) seed potatoes to clients who have specialised needs in the type of potatoes used.

Business Activities

•  Minitubers are planted in open fields as a G0 planting in an area with excellent isolation
•  From the G0 planting G1 seed is produced
•  G1 seed is replanted to produce G2 seed
•  G2 seed is the final product for sale
•  The G2 seed produced is then sold to FPD Seed and Development for allocation to independent selected seed growers
•  G2 seed of open varieties is also produced and sold to clients on order

Business Opportunities

• To grow early generation seed (G0 to G2) in remote areas to ensure that disease free material is produced
• To produce early generation seed (G0 to G2) for the Seed & Development company supply chain needs
• To produce early generation of free varieties for entities other than FPD.
• G2 seed is produced on order during two production cycles per year. The planting done in February produces G2 seed plantable from October and the July/August planting delivers seed plantable from April of the following year.
• Production of both G1 and G2 seed is done on soils which have never produced potatoes before.
• Through its close association with APP, G Zero 2 can manage the entire production process from in vitro plantlets to G2 seed.
